Some of our readers will remember the new ultraportable notebook from MSI, that we featured on the site back in November 2009, the MSI Wind U230. After a long wait, the MSI Wind is finally available.
There are two models of the MSI Wind available. The MSI Wind U230-033 features an AMD Athlon NEO MV-40 processor and a 250GB hard drive, whilst the Wind U230-040 features a dual-core AMD Athlon X2 L335 processor and a 320GB hard drive.

Both models feature a 12.1 inch LCD display with a 1366 x 768 pixel resolution, ATI Radeon HD3200 graphics, and 2GB of RAM. There is also integrated 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, and a 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet port.
Comprehensive Connectivity and Ports
The MSI Wind U230 also features one VGA port, HDMI, three USB 2.0 ports, a microphone and headphone port, plus a multi-format card reader. Each model also has a 1.3-megapixel web camera and a six-cell battery. This array of ports ensures that users can connect a variety of peripherals and external devices, making the U230 a versatile choice for both personal and professional use.
The inclusion of HDMI is particularly noteworthy, as it allows users to connect the notebook to external displays such as monitors and HDTVs, providing a larger viewing experience for presentations, movies, or gaming. The multi-format card reader supports various types of memory cards, making it easy to transfer photos, videos, and other files from digital cameras and other devices.
Performance and Usability
The performance of the MSI Wind U230 is bolstered by its AMD processors. The U230-033’s AMD Athlon NEO MV-40 processor is designed for energy efficiency, making it a suitable choice for users who prioritize battery life. On the other hand, the U230-040’s dual-core AMD Athlon X2 L335 processor offers enhanced performance, making it ideal for multitasking and more demanding applications.
Both models come with 2GB of RAM, which is adequate for everyday tasks such as web browsing, document editing, and media playback. However, users who require more memory for intensive applications can upgrade the RAM to improve performance further.
The 12.1-inch display with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels provides a clear and vibrant viewing experience. The ATI Radeon HD3200 graphics card enhances visual performance, making the U230 capable of handling high-definition video playback and light gaming.
The integrated 802.11 b/g/n WiFi ensures fast and reliable wireless connectivity, while the 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet port provides a stable wired connection for situations where WiFi is unavailable or less reliable.
Pricing and Availability
The MSI Wind U230-033 will be available for $430, while the Wind U230-040 will be available for $480. Both models come with Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, providing a user-friendly operating system with a range of features and functionalities.
The MSI Wind U230 offers a compelling combination of portability, performance, and connectivity. Its range of ports and connectivity options, along with the choice of processors, make it a versatile notebook suitable for a variety of users. Whether you need a reliable device for everyday tasks or a more powerful machine for multitasking and media consumption, the MSI Wind U230 has something to offer.
