According to a recent report by Torrent Freak, both NBC Universal and Warner Bros. have asked Google to remove Kim Dotcom’s new file storage service Mega from Google’s search results.
NBC Universal and Warner Bros have filed a complaint related to a couple of movies, which include Mam and Gangster Squad, and has listed URL’s of Mega and other sites where the content is allegedly located.
Rather than asking for the links to the alleged infringing material be removed, the movie studios have decided that they want the whole of the Mega website removed from Google’s search results. Dotcom had the following to say about the matter.
The Warner Bros. and NBC Universal requests to Google are censoring our entire homepage,” he said. “This is in line with the unreasonable content industry behavior we have experienced for years.”
“The constant abuse of takedown rules and the ignorance of DMCA obligations by the content industry are based on the confidence that the current U.S. administration is protecting this kind of behavior,” he added. “The political contract prosecution of Megaupload is the best example.”
It will be interesting to see what happens, as under the DMCA rules the specific links where the alleged content is located should be removed by Google and not the whole site.
