Motorola briefly published a website for its new Motorola Droid Android smartphone. The website was quickly taken down, but not before someone managed to capture screenshots and a video of it, which reveal the specifications of this new smartphone.
The Motorola Droid will come with a 3.7 inch, 16:9 touchscreen display with a resolution of 480 x 854. On top of that, there is a 5-megapixel camera with 4x zoom, autofocus, and a dual LED flash.
Hardware Specifications
Other specifications include a 550MHz processor, which, while not the fastest on the market, should be sufficient for most everyday tasks and applications. The device also comes with a 16GB microSD card, providing ample storage for apps, photos, and media. For navigation and location-based services, the Droid is equipped with GPS. Connectivity options include Bluetooth for wireless accessories, 802.11b/g WiFi for internet access, and a micro USB port for charging and data transfer.
The Motorola Droid will come with a 1400 mAh Li-ion battery, which will give you up to 385 minutes of talk time and up to 270 hours of standby time. This should be adequate for a full day of moderate use, although heavy users might need to recharge more frequently.
Design and Software
The Motorola Droid measures 2.4 inches x 4.6 inches by 0.5 inches thick and weighs in at 6 ounces. This makes it relatively compact and lightweight, easy to carry in a pocket or bag. The design is sleek and modern, with a focus on usability and comfort.
The Droid will come with Google Android 2.0, which offers a range of new features and improvements over previous versions. This includes better support for multitasking, improved navigation, and a more polished user interface. Android 2.0 also brings enhanced support for third-party applications, allowing users to customize their device to suit their needs.
One of the standout features of the Droid is its integration with Google services. Users will have easy access to Gmail, Google Maps, and the Google Play Store, where they can download a wide variety of apps and games. The device also supports voice search, making it easy to find information on the go.
There are no details as yet on the release date or pricing, but given the specifications and features, the Motorola Droid is shaping up to be a strong contender in the smartphone market. It will be interesting to see how it compares to other devices in its class, such as the iPhone and the various Android phones from other manufacturers.
