Yesterday Atari shared some more information on their new Ataribox console and now we have some more information on the console.
Atari revealed in a recent email that the console will come with ‘modern specs’ and that the console will play both old school Atari games and also new games.
This suggests that as well as developing the console with the latest hardware, Atari has also been working on developing games for the system, which means that it will be more than just a retro console like the recent Nintendo ones.
What we do know so far is the the new Ataribox will come in two different versions, one will be a wood edition which from the looks of the photos takes its design inspiration from the Atari 2600, the other console will be a black and red edition.
It will be interesting to see what this new Atarbox console is like, as Atari has plans to use up to date specifications in the device, we wonder if the console will be designed to compete with the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch.
We know you are hungry for more details; on specs, games, features, pricing, timing etc. We’re not teasing you intentionally; we want to get this right, so we’ve opted to share things step by step as we bring Ataribox to life, and to listen closely to Atari community feedback as we do so. There are a lot of milestones, challenges and decision points in front of us in the months ahead. We’ll be giving you lots more information and status updates as we progress, and we are thrilled to have you along for the ride!
We are expecting Atari to launch their new console before the end of the year, as it would be a good move for them to make it available before the holiday shopping season.
