Lego master builder Paweł “Sariel” Kmiec has released a video of his latest Lego creation in the form of a Lego SR-71 Blackbird cold war spy plane.
The Lego SR-71 Blackbird has been motorised and can be controlled by joystick and measures 73.6cm in length and is a close miniature replica to the original beast that was capable of flying at Mach 3. Watch the video after the jump to see it in action.
Features and Specifications
The Lego SR-71 Blackbird features motorised elevons, rotating and illuminated engines, motorized control mast, and custom stickers. These intricate details make it not only a visually stunning model but also a functional one. The motorized elevons allow for realistic flight control surfaces, while the rotating and illuminated engines add a touch of authenticity that is rarely seen in Lego models. The motorized control mast provides stability and maneuverability, making it a joy to operate.
Paweł “Sariel” Kmiec has gone to great lengths to ensure that this model is as close to the real SR-71 Blackbird as possible. The original SR-71 was a long-range, advanced, strategic reconnaissance aircraft that was used by the United States Air Force. It was capable of flying at speeds over Mach 3 and at altitudes of 85,000 feet, making it one of the fastest and highest-flying aircraft ever built.
Building and Design Process
Creating a Lego model of this complexity is no small feat. Sariel has documented the entire building process on his website, providing insights into the challenges and triumphs he faced along the way. The design process involved meticulous planning and a deep understanding of both the original aircraft and the capabilities of Lego bricks. Sariel used advanced building techniques to achieve the sleek, aerodynamic shape of the SR-71, ensuring that the model is not only accurate but also structurally sound.
One of the most impressive aspects of this build is the use of custom stickers to replicate the intricate details of the SR-71. These stickers add a level of realism that is often missing in Lego models, making this creation stand out even more. The attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the model, from the cockpit to the tail fins.
