Details have been leaked this week for the new MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Gaming 8G graphics card revealing more information about its specifications.
When the pervious leaked GP104 i PCB did not match any Nvidia’s reference design, the Video Cardz website did a little more investigation and discovered that the design for MSI’s GTX 980 GAMING 4G turned out to be a match.
The Video Cardz website explains more:
First picture shows the leaked part in comparison to reference GTX 980 board. We can immediately notice that some screw holes (1) and (3) that do not align with the reference board. In fact if this was reference board it should have more holes (3). The (2) shows part of PCB covering the space required for SLI connector. So either this board no longer needs SLI connectors or this is custom made.
I wasn’t sure why leaked PCB part did not fit till I realized that one manufacturer often uses ‘Qual Sample’ GPU for PCB shots. That manufacturer is MSI. So in order to check my theory I quickly compared GTX 980 GAMING 4G PCB vs leaked one, and suddenly everything made sense. It’s a perfect match. (1) shows screw hole that perfectly fit into custom made PCB with GM204, (2) shows shadow from capacitor that exists on GTX 980 PCB, and (3) show missing holes. This GP104-400 sample was without a doubt from MSI card. Of course this is just my educated guess, but I’m more than sure about this one.
