David Meiklejohn at Gooligum Electronics has created a new LED Raspberry Pi display called the Joey which has been designed to work with all other add-on devices and sits to the side of your single board computer in a ‘sidecar’ configuration.
The compact four digit LED display board allows you to use other expansion boards at the same time yet still be able to see the digits of the Joey display.
Watch the video below to learn more about how this neat little display can help you expand the functionality of your Pi projects and receive feedback even when using other Raspberry Pi shields. Its creator explains a little more :
The Joey is simple to use – we provide a comprehensive Python library, sample applications and, of course, full documentation. Does your project need to show the time? Or readings from the real world, such as temperature?
Do you have an add-on, such as the prototyping board shown below, that would get in the way of other displays? The Joey is the easiest way to display numbers on your Raspberry Pi – inexpensive and no screen required.
Have you just connected to a network and want to know the new IP address? The Joey can display the IP address automatically during boot up! The Joey shows numbers (up to four digits) on a small display board. It can even display short text messages.
