Apple’s new iPhone 6S looks very similar to last year’s iPhone 6, although the new handset has a number of hardware upgrades over last year’s models.
Hardware Upgrades and Performance
Some of the updates in this year’s iPhone 6S and 6S Plus handsets include a faster Apple A9 processor with improved graphics, 2GB of RAM, and of course, Apple’s new 3D Touch Force Touch display. The A9 chip is a significant upgrade from the A8, offering up to 70% faster CPU performance and up to 90% faster GPU performance. This makes the iPhone 6S not only faster in everyday tasks but also more capable of handling intensive applications and games.
The 3D Touch feature introduces a new way to interact with the device. By sensing the pressure applied to the screen, it allows for new gestures like “Peek” and “Pop,” which provide quick access to various functions and previews without fully opening apps. This innovation enhances user experience by making navigation more intuitive and efficient.
Camera and Photography Enhancements
Other new features on this year’s models of Apple’s iPhone include a new 12-megapixel rear camera, which is capable of shooting Ultra HD video in 4K. This is a notable improvement from the 8-megapixel camera found in the iPhone 6. The increased resolution allows for more detailed and sharper photos, while the 4K video recording capability ensures that videos are captured with stunning clarity and detail.
The front-facing camera has also seen an upgrade to 5 megapixels, making it better suited for selfies and video calls. Additionally, Apple has introduced a new feature called “Live Photos,” which captures a few seconds of video before and after a photo is taken, bringing your photos to life with movement and sound.
In the video below, which was put together by Dom Esposito from 9 to 5 Mac, we get to have a look at the new iPhone 6S and 6S Plus compared to last year’s iPhone 6.
Design and New Features
While the design of the iPhone 6S remains largely unchanged from the iPhone 6, Apple has introduced a new color option: Rose Gold. This addition provides users with more variety and personalization options. The build quality has also been improved with the use of 7000 series aluminum, which is stronger and more durable than the material used in previous models, reducing the risk of bending and damage.
Another noteworthy feature is the second-generation Touch ID, which is faster and more accurate than the first generation. This improvement enhances security and makes unlocking the phone and authorizing payments quicker and more reliable.
The iPhone 6S also comes with iOS 9, which brings a host of new features and improvements to the operating system. These include a more intelligent Siri, improved multitasking capabilities, and enhanced battery life management. The combination of hardware and software upgrades makes the iPhone 6S a compelling choice for both new users and those looking to upgrade from older models.
