The guys over at iFixit have already got their hands on the new iPhone 4, and have taken their screwdrivers to it to find out what is inside.
We pretty much knew that the iPhone 4 features a custom 1GHz ARM processor, 512MB of RAM, and a 1420mAh Li-Polymer battery, which is considerably larger than the battery in the iPhone 3GS. This larger battery is designed to support the enhanced features and capabilities of the iPhone 4, including its higher resolution display and more powerful processing capabilities.
Innovative Design and Build
One of the standout features of the iPhone 4 is its new aluminum unibody case. This design not only gives the phone a sleek and modern look but also adds to its durability. The unibody construction means that the case is made from a single piece of aluminum, which helps to reduce the number of seams and joints that can weaken the structure over time.
Additionally, the iPhone 4 boasts a new toughened glass screen, which is designed to be more resistant to scratches and impacts compared to previous models. The glass back, replacing the plastic back of the iPhone 3GS, also contributes to the phone’s premium feel and improved durability. This glass is chemically strengthened to be 20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic, making it less prone to damage.
Advanced Internal Components
Inside the iPhone 4, iFixit discovered several advanced components that contribute to its superior performance. The custom 1GHz ARM processor, known as the A4 chip, is the same processor used in the iPad, providing the iPhone 4 with significant processing power. This chip is designed to handle complex tasks and applications with ease, making the iPhone 4 one of the most powerful smartphones of its time.
The 512MB of RAM is double the amount found in the iPhone 3GS, allowing for smoother multitasking and faster performance. This increase in RAM is particularly beneficial for running multiple apps simultaneously and for handling more demanding applications and games.
The 1420mAh Li-Polymer battery is another significant upgrade.
