Building on earlier plastic bodied pocket knife designs that also used the innovative folding mechanism, that has become synonymous with the Iain Sinclair Cardsharp range of pocket knives.
This week designer Sinclair has launched his latest creation in the form of the Iain Sinclair Cardsharp4 which now sports a CNC machined metal blade and body. The animation below shows how the very unique folding mechanism functions.
The Cardsharp4 pocket knife measures just 2.2 mm in thickness and weighs just 24g. Its constructed from 6082 T6 aluminium metal and is equipped with a stainless steel curved edge surgical blade. Its designer, Iain Sinclair explains a little more about his latest creation :
“Just three ingenious folding operations turn the card into an elegant pocket utility tool. Less bulky than a pocket knife and as sharp as a scalpel. Cardsharp is the first real innovation in penknives since the first folding knife, which has been around for over 2000 years and is virtually unchanged from today’s Swiss Army penknife. Cardsharp is thinner, lighter and due to its use of 420 series surgical stainless steel: sharper. Sharp enough in fact, that it can cut through an automobile safety belt in an emergency.
“CNC machined from a wafer thin strip of ultralight aluminum including hard anodized surface finish. Cardsharp4 has ultimate robustness and strength. New construction with two-stage, child-proof Zytel® safety lock helps prevent accidental opening and gives the knife excellent rigidity in both open and closed positions.
The new improved Zytel rivet secures the blade to the body. Next generation, spring-loaded hinges ensure the Cardsharp4 remains flat while in card mode with no sagging. A tough, heavy duty tool suitable for most types of cutting tasks.”
The Iain Sinclair Cardsharp4 pocket knife is now available to purchase priced at £55 or $90 and is manufactured in the UK under license from Iain Sinclair Design of London. Jump over to the official Iain Sinclair website for more details and to purchase your very own.
