Hyundai has announced that in some markets starting in Q1 2019 it will be integrating smart fingerprint technology into the 2019 Sante Fe SUV. The tech will allow owners to unlock the door using a fingerprint scanner on the inside of the door handle.
The driver will also be able to start the car using a fingerprint reader on the ignition area. The tech means that the driver will need no keys or fobs in pockets or hands. The system also promises to be more secure than regular keys.
Hyundai says that the tech has only a 1 in 50,000 chance of misrecognizing a person’s fingerprint for someone else. The tech will also match driver preference data with the fingerprint allowing automatic seat adjustment, connected car features, and side view mirror angles to be set automatically.
