Honda Mean Mower: World’s Fastest Lawnmower
Honda has announced that their Honda Mean Mower is now the world’s fastest lawnmower, having recently broken the Guinness World Record for the world’s fastest lawnmower.
The Honda Mean Mower comes with an impressive 109HP, and it hit an average speed of 187.60km/h or 116.57mph. The previous record was for 140km/h or 87mph, making this a significant leap in performance.
Breaking the Record
The speed was measured through a 100-metre speed trap, overseen by official timers, Timing Solutions Limited. To meet Guinness World Records regulations, the mower had to record the same run in both directions within an hour – with the average speed taken of these two runs. Additionally, to qualify for the record, it needed to cut grass and to look like a lawnmower; both of which it did successfully. With all of these criteria met, the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS Adjudicator officially declared the success of the record attempt just before 18:00 CET on Saturday, 8th March.
Engineering Marvel
The Honda Mean Mower is not just about speed; it is an engineering marvel. The mower is powered by a 1.0-liter engine from a Honda VTR Firestorm motorcycle, which is capable of producing 109 horsepower. This engine is paired with a custom-made suspension and wheels from an ATV, ensuring that the mower can handle high speeds while maintaining stability and control.
Moreover, the Mean Mower features a custom-built frame made from high-strength steel, which provides the necessary rigidity and durability. The cutting deck is made from fiberglass to keep the weight down, and it uses two electric motors to spin the blades at 4000 RPM, ensuring that it can still function as a lawnmower despite its high-speed capabilities.
The Honda Mean Mower was driven by Piers Ward from the BBC’s Top Gear magazine. Ward’s experience and skill were crucial in achieving the record-breaking speed, as controlling a lawnmower at such high speeds requires precision and expertise.
