The guys over at Gizmodo have managed to uncover some pricing and release date details for the Google [GOOG] Phone, the Google Nexus One.
It looks like there will be two ways to purchase the Google Nexus One. You can either purchase it unlocked to use on any mobile phone network, and this option will cost you $530. This unlocked version offers the flexibility to choose any carrier and switch networks without any restrictions, which is particularly beneficial for frequent travelers or those who prefer not to be tied down to a single carrier.
Subsidized Version with T-Mobile
Alternatively, you can purchase a subsidized version of the Google Nexus One on T-Mobile. For this option, you will have to sign up for a two-year contract, which will cost you $79.99 a month. The handset itself will then cost you $180. This subsidized version is a more affordable initial investment, making it accessible to a broader range of consumers. However, the monthly contract fee is relatively high, which could add up over the two-year period.
The T-Mobile plan includes unlimited texting and data, which is a significant advantage for heavy data users. However, it’s important to consider the total cost of ownership over the contract period, which would amount to approximately $2,100, including the cost of the handset.
Release Date and Availability
It looks like the Google Nexus One will be available from the 5th of January 2010, in the US. This release date positions the Nexus One as one of the first major smartphone launches of the year, potentially giving it a competitive edge in the market. There are no details as yet on when we are likely to see the Nexus One in the UK and the rest of Europe. The international release dates are eagerly anticipated, as the Nexus One is expected to be a strong competitor in the global smartphone market.
The Nexus One is expected to feature a 3.7-inch AMOLED display, a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, and a 5-megapixel camera, among other high-end specifications. These features position it as a premium device, aimed at tech enthusiasts and power users.
