Typically, when it comes to purchasing a mobile phone out right, you’re looking to spend at least $20 or $30. A new phone has recently turned up called the Gongkai phone and it’s a scant $12. You don’t get a lot of technology for that price, but it will make phone calls and if that’s all you need, $12 is a bargain.
The phone features quad-band GSM connectivity, Bluetooth, MP3 capability, and an OLED small display. The phone has a 260 MHz 32-bit processor and eight MiB of memory. It uses a lithium polymer battery and includes the charging cable.
One of the coolest things about the phone is that it has a green translucent case allowing you to see all the hardware on the inside. It has a standard SIM card slot and a microSD card for storing music. You don’t get any cameras or fancy smart features, but if you want to give the phone to someone that only needs to make calls this could be the best thing going. There’s no word on availability in the US.
