According to a recent report by the Washington Post, Facebook is looking to launch its free Internet service in the US.
Facebook launched its Free Basics Internet service in India, although it later removed the service from the country and now it apparently wants to launch it in the US.
The Free Basics Internet service gives people access to certain content but not all and this is why it is coming under criticism.
Facebook sees this as a way to get more users on its platform, by allowing free access to their content with a free Internet service that would not use people data and would apparently target low income and rural Americans.
According to the Washington Post, Facebook has been in talks with the Whitehouse about bringing this free Internet service to the US. Facebook are apparently trying to work out how to launch their service in the US without upsetting the regulators, as this is what happened in India.
