In an attempt to clean up its membership and weed out false accounts Facebook has started to delete thousands of fake accounts from its system.
Starting this week Facebook started purging the fake accounts and removing false Page Likes from accounts, following on from the site integrity improvements Facebook rolled out last month.
Facebook said “On average, less than 1% of Likes on any given Page will be removed” if they’ve abided by its terms and haven’t shadily been buying Likes from hackers. The move by Facebook to clean up its membership is to help attract businesses to buy ads that score them Likes.
However the signup process for Facebook is still very easy and quick and the deleted fake accounts are sure to be replaced over the coming months with new false accounts, if Facebook doesn’t police the signup a little more thoroughly.
