Drones have made a big splash in pop culture recently. You can’t seem to watch a movie, read a book or play a video game that concerns modern military topics without broaching the topic of drones. That’s not to mention all the conspiracy theorists and their drone paranoia.
Unfortunately, drones are expensive. But now, thanks to the work of Jasper van Loenen, you can make a drone of your own out of just about anything! With a 3D printer and a few minor bits and pieces you can pick up at your local hardware and electronic stores, you can create a Drone It Yourself kit that can turn anything reasonably lightweight into a drone.
Don’t believe me? Check out the video below.
Yep, you saw that right. He just turned a bike tire into a drone in a matter of minutes! It probably took more time to get the tire off of the bike.
The possibilities are endless! Want a surveillance drone? Attached wireless camera to a board, use the kit and enjoy. All you need is a 3D printer and some extra time on your hands. At the rate things are going, it won’t be long until you have both.
With the possibilities of 3D printers expanding by the day, are you more apt to purchase one for a thousand dollars or so? If not, how much would you be willing to pay for a 3D printer right now?
