Homemade iPhone docks seem to be really popular at the moment, like our very own recycled CD iPhone dock. The latest one is slightly different from previous ones we have seen, the Dinosaur iPhone Dock.
This fun Dinosaur iPhone Dock was made by Flickr user rockabillyjon, and as you can see from the photos, he used a plastic toy dinosaur and probably a tool like a dremel.
If you wanted to make your own, I am sure it would be very easy, and it certainly would look different sat on your desk.
Materials and Tools Needed
Creating your own Dinosaur iPhone Dock can be a fun and rewarding project. To get started, you’ll need a few basic materials and tools. First, you’ll need a plastic toy dinosaur. These can be found at most toy stores or online. The size of the dinosaur should be large enough to accommodate your iPhone. Next, you’ll need a dremel or a similar rotary tool to carve out a space for the iPhone to sit. Additionally, some sandpaper can help smooth out any rough edges after cutting.
You might also want to use some paint to customize the dinosaur to your liking. Acrylic paints work well on plastic and come in a variety of colors. Finally, a hot glue gun can be useful for securing any loose parts or adding extra stability to the dock.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Choose Your Dinosaur: Select a plastic toy dinosaur that is large enough to hold your iPhone. Make sure it has a stable base so it won’t tip over easily.
2. Mark the Cut Area: Use a marker to outline the area where your iPhone will sit. This is usually on the dinosaur’s back or side, depending on its shape.
3. Cut the Slot: Carefully use a dremel or rotary tool to cut out the marked area. Make sure the slot is deep and wide enough to hold your iPhone securely.
4. Smooth the Edges: Use sandpaper to smooth out any rough edges around the cut area. This will prevent scratches on your iPhone.
5. Customize with Paint: If you want to add a personal touch, use acrylic paint to decorate your dinosaur. You can make it as realistic or as whimsical as you like.
6. Secure the Dock: If needed, use a hot glue gun to add extra stability to the dock. You can glue the dinosaur to a small base or add some weight inside to keep it from tipping over.
7. Test It Out: Place your iPhone in the slot to make sure it fits securely. Make any necessary adjustments to ensure it sits comfortably.
Creating a Dinosaur iPhone Dock is not only a fun DIY project but also a great way to recycle old toys and give them a new purpose. Plus, it makes for a unique and eye-catching accessory on your desk.
