Canon has launched their latest high-end DSLR camera, the Canon EOS 1D Mark IV.
The Canon EOS 1D Mark IV features an APS-H-sized 16 megapixel sensor, with a 1.3x crop factor, and a normal ISO range of 100 to 12,800. It also has an expanded ISO range up to 102,400, making it highly versatile for various lighting conditions, from bright daylight to dim indoor settings.
“Canon works hard to be the imaging leader in all our business endeavors. This goal has fueled our innovation and R&D efforts to engineer the most advanced autofocus system Canon has ever produced. We are proud to announce the camera that will deliver the ultimate in imaging quality to professionals working in all areas of multimedia imaging, whether it’s action photography, photojournalism or HD video and cinematography,” stated Yuichi Ishizuka, senior vice president and general manager, Consumer Imaging Group, Canon U.S.A.
Advanced Autofocus System
One of the standout features of the Canon EOS 1D Mark IV is its 45-point autofocus system, which includes 39 high-precision cross-type focusing points. This advanced autofocus system is capable of tracking fast-moving objects accurately at speeds up to 10 frames per second. This makes the camera an excellent choice for sports and wildlife photographers who need to capture split-second moments with precision.
The autofocus system is designed to perform exceptionally well in various conditions, ensuring that photographers can rely on it whether they are shooting in low light or capturing fast action. The 39 cross-type points provide greater accuracy and reliability, especially when dealing with complex scenes or subjects that move unpredictably.
HD Video Capabilities
The Canon EOS 1D Mark IV is not just a still photography powerhouse; it also excels in video recording. The camera can shoot HD video in 1080p at 24, 25, and 30 frames per second, providing filmmakers with the flexibility to choose the frame rate that best suits their project. Additionally, it can record 720p video at 50 or 60 frames per second, which is ideal for capturing smooth, high-quality slow-motion footage.
The camera’s video capabilities are further enhanced by its manual exposure control, allowing videographers to have full control over their settings. This is particularly useful for professional videographers who need to adjust their exposure settings on the fly to adapt to changing lighting conditions.
Moreover, the Canon EOS 1D Mark IV supports an external microphone input, enabling users to capture high-quality audio to complement their video recordings. This feature is essential for those who are serious about producing professional-grade videos.
Additional Features and Availability
Beyond its impressive autofocus and video capabilities, the Canon EOS 1D Mark IV offers a range of other features that make it a top choice for professional photographers. The camera is built with durability in mind, featuring a robust magnesium alloy body that is both dust and weather-resistant. This ensures that the camera can withstand the rigors of professional use in various environments.
The camera also includes dual card slots, supporting both CompactFlash and SD cards. This provides photographers with the flexibility to use their preferred storage media and ensures that they have ample space to store their high-resolution images and videos.
If you want one, the Canon EOS 1D Mark IV is now available to pre-order for $4,999. This price point reflects the camera’s advanced features and professional-grade performance, making it a worthwhile investment for serious photographers and videographers.
