We have been hearing a lot about the new BlackBerry Priv smartphone recently and now we have some details on how much the handset will cost.
According to a recent report, the BlackBerry Priv will have a retail price of around RMB 3,999 in China, this is about $630 at the current exchange rate.
Specifications and Features
The Priv is BlackBerry’s first Android smartphone, marking a significant shift for the company traditionally known for its own operating system. The handset is rumored to come with either a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 or an octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor, providing robust performance capabilities. It will feature 3GB of RAM, ensuring smooth multitasking and efficient operation of apps. Additionally, the device will come with 32GB of internal storage, which can be expanded via a microSD card slot, offering ample space for apps, photos, and other media.
Other specifications in the device include a 5.4-inch display with a QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. This high-resolution screen will provide sharp and vibrant visuals, making it ideal for media consumption, gaming, and productivity tasks.
Camera and Software
The new Priv will come with an 18-megapixel rear camera, which is expected to deliver high-quality photos and videos. The camera will likely include features such as optical image stabilization, phase detection autofocus, and dual-LED flash, enhancing its performance in various lighting conditions. On the front, there will be a 5-megapixel camera, suitable for selfies and video calls.
The Priv will run Google’s Android OS, probably Lollipop, although it may receive updates to newer versions of Android over time. One of the standout features of the Priv will be the integration of BlackBerry’s renowned security features and productivity apps. This will include BlackBerry Hub, a unified inbox for all your communications, and DTEK, a security app that monitors and protects your privacy.
Design and Build
In terms of design, the BlackBerry Priv is expected to feature a sleek and modern look, with a physical keyboard that slides out from under the display. This keyboard will appeal to long-time BlackBerry users who prefer tactile typing over on-screen keyboards. The build quality is anticipated to be premium, with materials that provide durability and a comfortable feel in the hand.
Market Position and Expectations
The BlackBerry Priv represents a strategic move by BlackBerry to regain market share by leveraging the popularity of the Android ecosystem while still offering the unique features that set BlackBerry apart. The pricing of around $630 positions it in the high-end segment of the smartphone market, competing with flagship devices from other manufacturers.
We are expecting the new BlackBerry Priv to launch in early November. As soon as we get some more details about the handset, we will let you guys know.
