We previously heard that BlackBerry would release another Android smartphone this year and now the company has confirmed that they are working on two Android Phones
BlackBerry CEO John Chen recently told The National that the company is working on two new mid range Android phones and they will launch this year.
He also talked about the company’s BlackBerry Priv and said that the device was too expensive for many of their enterprise customers.
A lot of enterprise customers have said to us, ‘I want to buy your phone but $700 is a little too steep for me. I’m more interested in a $400 device’.”
We recently reported that BlackBerry only managed to sell 600,000 smartphones in their last financial quarter, this is way behind companies like Samsung and Apple who sell many millions of handsets each quarter.
What we know about these new Android smartphones is one will be a touchscreen device and the other will feature a physical keyboard, whether any of the devices will have the same design as the BlackBerry Priv remains to be seen.
Mr Chen also conformed in the interview that there will be no new BlackBerry 10 handsets this year, although he did say that the platform would continue to receive updates.
As soon as we get some more information on exactly what BlackBerry has planned for its new range of Android handsets, we will let you guys know.
