Looking forward to the new Batman: Arkham City game due out October 21st, 2011? If you are, new footage has been released with a quick trailer including some nice new Batman moves in the This Ain’t No Place for a Hero trailer. Check it out after the jump.
Batman: Arkham City is the upcoming sequel to the action-adventure, stealth video game Batman: Arkham Asylum, based on DC Comics’ Batman which was released for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, back in 2009.
Arkham City has a virtual footprint five times larger than the original Arkham Asylum game, with improved navigational aspects to give the player the experience of “the freedom and exhilaration of gliding down alleyways and soaring above the skyline”. This expanded environment allows for a more immersive experience, where players can explore the dark and gritty streets of Gotham City, encountering a variety of villains and challenges along the way.
New Features and Gameplay Mechanics
One of the most exciting aspects of Batman: Arkham City is the introduction of new gameplay mechanics and features. Players can expect to see an enhanced combat system that builds on the fluid and dynamic fighting style of the first game. New gadgets and tools will be available to Batman, allowing for more creative and strategic approaches to both combat and stealth scenarios. For example, the Remote Electrical Charge can be used to stun enemies or power up machinery, adding a new layer of depth to puzzle-solving and combat encounters.
Additionally, the game introduces a new side mission system, where players can take on various tasks and challenges outside of the main storyline. These side missions often involve iconic characters from the Batman universe, such as Catwoman, who is also a playable character in certain segments of the game. This not only adds variety to the gameplay but also enriches the narrative by providing more context and background to the world of Arkham City.
Storyline and Characters
The storyline of Batman: Arkham City picks up where Arkham Asylum left off, with the warden of Arkham Asylum, Quincy Sharp, becoming the mayor of Gotham City. Sharp declares a section of Gotham as Arkham City, a sprawling, high-security prison for all of Gotham’s criminals. Batman must navigate this dangerous environment to uncover the true intentions behind Arkham City and stop the villains who are plotting within its walls.
The game features a rich cast of characters from the Batman universe, including familiar faces like The Joker, Harley Quinn, and Two-Face, as well as new additions like Hugo Strange and The Penguin. Each character brings their own unique challenges and storylines, making for a diverse and engaging experience. The voice acting, led by Kevin Conroy as Batman and Mark Hamill as The Joker, adds a layer of authenticity and immersion to the game, making it feel like a true extension of the Batman mythos.
With its expansive open world, enhanced gameplay mechanics, and compelling storyline, Batman: Arkham City promises to be a worthy successor to Arkham Asylum. Fans of the first game and newcomers alike will find plenty to enjoy in this highly anticipated sequel.
