Asus has shown off a new broadband router, the RT-456U. As usual with Asus releases, all we have is a photo and not many specifications of this new router.
As you can see from the photo, the Asus RT-456U router looks extremely thin, probably one of the thinnest routers we have seen to date. What we do know is that it is a 802.11n WiFi router.
Apparently, the Asus RT-456U features dual-band support, and the 5GHz band is used for your WiFi printers and scanners. It is very fast with 300,000 concurrent sessions available.
Design and Build Quality
The design of the Asus RT-456U is not just about aesthetics; it also focuses on functionality. The ultra-thin profile makes it easy to place the router in various locations around your home or office without it being obtrusive. The sleek design is complemented by a sturdy build quality, ensuring that the router is durable and can withstand everyday wear and tear. The minimalist design also means fewer external antennas, which can often be a point of failure in other routers.
Performance and Features
The Asus RT-456U is equipped with dual-band technology, which means it can operate on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. This dual-band capability allows for better distribution of network traffic, reducing congestion and improving overall performance. The 5GHz band is particularly useful for high-bandwidth activities such as streaming HD videos, online gaming, and connecting multiple smart devices.
One of the standout features of the RT-456U is its ability to handle up to 300,000 concurrent sessions. This makes it an excellent choice for households or small offices with multiple users and devices. Whether you’re downloading large files, streaming content, or running a home office, this router is designed to handle it all without breaking a sweat.
Another notable feature is its support for 802.11n WiFi, which offers faster speeds and better range compared to older WiFi standards. This ensures that you get a strong and stable connection throughout your home or office, even in areas that are typically hard to reach with other routers.
Advanced Security Features
Security is always a concern when it comes to internet connectivity, and the Asus RT-456U does not disappoint in this regard. It comes with advanced security features such as WPA3 encryption, which provides a higher level of security compared to the older WPA2 standard. This ensures that your network is protected from unauthorized access and potential cyber threats.
Additionally, the router supports VPN passthrough, allowing you to set up a secure connection to a remote network. This is particularly useful for remote workers who need to access their company’s network securely. The built-in firewall also adds an extra layer of protection, safeguarding your network from potential attacks.
Ease of Setup and Management
Setting up the Asus RT-456U is a breeze, thanks to its user-friendly interface and intuitive setup wizard. Even if you’re not tech-savvy, you can get your network up and running in no time. The router also comes with a mobile app that allows you to manage your network settings, monitor connected devices, and even perform firmware updates remotely.
The app provides real-time information about your network’s performance, helping you identify and troubleshoot any issues quickly. You can also set up parental controls to manage your children’s internet usage, ensuring they have a safe and secure online experience.
