Asus recently announced their new Padfone 2 smartphone, and when the device was announced Asus said that it would be available in certain European countries in December. Unfortunately, the UK was not on the list of countries at the time of the announcement.
Asus has now confirmed when the new Padfone 2 will be available in the UK. Unfortunately, the device will not be available in the UK until early next year. Asus did not give a specific launch date.
The Asus Padfone 2 is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon S4 processor clocked at 1.5GHz. It features a 4.7 inch Super IPS+ display with an HD resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, and there is also 2GB of RAM.
Other specifications on the Asus Padfone 2 include dual cameras. Up front, there is a 1.2 megapixel camera for video chat, and on the back, there is a 13 megapixel camera for photos and video.
Innovative Design and Features
One of the standout features of the Asus Padfone 2 is its innovative design. The device is not just a smartphone; it can also be docked into a tablet accessory, transforming it into a full-fledged tablet. This unique feature allows users to enjoy the benefits of both a smartphone and a tablet without having to carry two separate devices. The tablet dock features a 10.1-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, providing a larger screen for media consumption, web browsing, and productivity tasks.
The Padfone 2 also comes with a robust battery life. The smartphone itself has a 2140mAh battery, which is quite substantial for a device of its size. When docked into the tablet accessory, the combined battery life is significantly extended, making it ideal for users who are always on the go and need a device that can keep up with their busy lifestyle.
Software and User Experience
The Asus Padfone 2 runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, with an upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean promised shortly after launch. Asus has also included its own custom user interface, which adds several enhancements and features to the stock Android experience. For instance, the Padfone 2 includes a unique app called “Dynamic Display,” which automatically adjusts the layout of apps when switching between smartphone and tablet modes. This ensures a seamless transition and a consistent user experience across both form factors.
In terms of connectivity, the Padfone 2 supports 4G LTE, ensuring fast internet speeds for browsing, streaming, and downloading. It also includes NFC (Near Field Communication) capabilities, allowing for easy sharing of content and mobile payments.
The device comes with various storage options, including 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB models, catering to different user needs. Additionally, Asus offers 50GB of free cloud storage for two years through its Asus WebStorage service, providing ample space for users to store their files, photos, and videos.
The Padfone 2’s camera capabilities are also noteworthy. The 13-megapixel rear camera uses a Sony BSI sensor and an f/2.4 aperture, which allows for excellent low-light performance. The camera can also record 1080p Full HD video at 30 frames per second, making it a versatile tool for capturing high-quality photos and videos.
The Asus Padfone 2 is a versatile and innovative device that offers the convenience of both a smartphone and a tablet in one package. Its powerful hardware, unique design, and robust feature set make it an attractive option for tech enthusiasts and productivity-focused users alike. While the delayed UK launch is disappointing, the Padfone 2’s impressive capabilities make it worth the wait.
