Apple’s new iOS 11 was released on Tuesday and it features a new Control Center which can be customized. When you use the WiFi or Bluetooth button in the Control Center, you would expect these to turn these features off completely, that is not the case.
If you use these buttons in the Control Center, what they will do is disconnect your iPhone or iPad from any connected accessories and also from any WiFi network you are connected to. Both features will still be turn on, just disconnected from what you were connected to.
Here is what Apple has to say about this new feature in the Control Center on iOS 11.
In iOS 11 and later, when you toggle the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth buttons in Control Center, your device will immediately disconnect from Wi-Fi and Bluetooth accessories. Both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth will continue to be available, so you can use these important features:
- AirDrop
- AirPlay
- Apple Pencil
- Apple Watch
- Continuity features, like Handoff and Instant Hotspot
- Instant Hotspot
- Location Services
If you want to turn off Bluetooth and WiFi completely, then you will need to do this from the settings menu on your device.
This is if you need to turn them off individually, if you want to turn them both off at the same time, you can just hit the Airplane Mode in Control Center, this will of course also turn off your cellular service at the same time.
