Apple and Samsung have been fighting it out in court for some time now, the two companies have returned to court this week, and now Apple wants another $380 million in damages from Samsung.
Samsung has said that it should only have to pay around $52 million, this is on top of the $600 million in damages that was originally ordered to Apple.
The $600 million is actually a reduced figure, the original damages awarded to Apple were over $1 billion, but a judge reduced this by $450 million to $600 million.
According to information that has been submitted to the court, Apple says that it lost out on sales of around 360,000 devices because of Samsung’s patent infringements.
According to Apple’s legal counsel, Samsung sold 10.7 million infringing devices, which generated a total of $3.5 billion of revenue for Samsung.
We will have to wait a while to find out exactly how much Samsung will have to pay Apple in damages, Judge Lucy Koh has asked the two companies to hold settlement talks again, before another trial in March.
Apple and Samsung have agreed to submit a proposal to the court by the 8th of January, whether these new settlement talks will allow Apple and Samsung to reach an agreement remains to be seen.
