“Not only is it the most popular music player in the world, but we’re excited to announce it’s now also the most popular portable game player in the world,” according to Apple CEO Tim Cook speaking at Apple’s by now fairly well covered event yesterday. Seeing as how that honour used to rest with the venerable Gameboy brand until recently, not to mention the hundred or so million various DS units sold, it’s more than a little likely that Apple is leveraging some creative math.
We’re pretty sure nobody cares much that by the same logic the Nokia featurephone is probably the world’s best selling portable games machine. Then again, iOS devices are so ubiquitous nowadays we wouldn’t raise an eyebrow when hearing someone call a Nokia featurephone an iPhone the way copy machines get called Xerox machines. And you know what they say about victors and history books.
