The new Apple Charger Takeback program that launched in the US in the first week of this month has now crossed the sea and and been made available in the UK.
The creation of the new Apple Charger Takeback program started after a number of reports over the last few months about people being electrocuted by dodgy or fake third party USB power adapters for Apple devices.
Apple’s program will allow users to drop off their power adapter at any Apple retail store or at an authorised Apple Reseller starting from today.
The Apple store will then ensure that any dodgy or fake adapters are disposed and, for a limited time, will offer customers a new official Adapter adapter for £8, half the price of they would be normally. Apple explains on their website:
“If you need a replacement adapter to charge your iPhone, iPad, or iPod, we recommend getting an Apple USB power adapter. For a limited time, you can purchase one Apple USB power adapter at a special price — £8 GBP (inc. VAT),”-“To qualify, you must turn in at least one USB power adapter and bring your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to an Apple Retail Store or participating Apple Authorized Service Provider for serial number validation.”
