Back in December we heard that the Amazon Drones testing program may be moving away from the US, this was because Amazon was having trouble getting FAA approval to run tests of their drones.
Now it looks like Amazon Drones testing will start in the US, as the FAA has now given the company the go ahead to test out their drones in the US.
Amazon have been given an ‘experimental airworthiness certificate’ for their Amazon Drones and this allows the company to test the drones out for research and development and also for pilot training.
There are some restrictions on the tests though, Amazon are not allowed to fly their drones about 122 meters and the testing is only allowed during daylight. The pilots who will be testing out the drones will need to have a private pilots certificate.
Amazon also has to report back to the FAA every month, providing them with data on how many flights have taken place and more.
