GM has announced that it will be adding support for Amazon Alexa voice commands to compatible cars back to the 2018 year model. Alexa will land for these vehicles in early 2020. Alexa will leverage the available 4G LTE connectivity and updatable embedded app framework in the vehicle.
Alexa will come to certain cars, trucks, and crossovers with compatible infotainment systems. GM says that the owners of these cars will have access to standard Alexa skills and capabilities. GM will also be able to create custom skills in the future that are relevant to the customer vehicle.
Alexa voice commands will allow GM owners to perform navigation tasks like get directions. Alexa will be able to launch media for the driver via connected streaming services. Drivers can also ask Alexa to call friends and family using their voice.
