It wasn’t that long ago that EVs could only go tens of miles before their batteries were dead. Things have quickly improved in the EV world with much longer driving ranges. Kia has announced that the 2020 Soul EV has earned an EPA estimated 243-mile driving range.
That’s not the longest EV driving range, but it puts the Soul EV right in the fight with other EV makers. The new EPA rating is a massive improvement compared to the first-generation Soul EV with its 111mile range.
The battery is a 64 kWh unit, and the same powertrain is used in the Hyundai Niro and Kona EVs. Soul EV buyers get DC fast charging standard and regenerative braking. Kia plans to offer the Soul EV and Soul EV Designer Collection at launch.
