Lexus has unveiled the 2018 NX crossover at the Shanghai auto show. The 2018 version of the NX is updated with a new upper grille area and new front bumpers. The styling updates make the crossover sleeker and more attractive along with adding improved aerodynamics. NX can be fitted with AHS-equipped headlamps and triple projectors.
The NX also gets satin smoked chrome trim on the inner parts of the grille. Two new 18-inch wheel options are available, including the bronze finish and a dark metallic paint option. Inside the new NX gets a larger 10.3-inch screen and the HVAC controls are simplified with toggle switches for control. USB ports are in the center console and have more amps for faster charging.
Enhanced Interior Features
The interior of the 2018 NX has been designed with both luxury and functionality in mind. The larger 10.3-inch screen is not just for show; it provides a more intuitive interface for navigation and entertainment. The simplified HVAC controls with toggle switches make it easier for drivers to adjust the climate settings without taking their eyes off the road. Additionally, the increased amperage in the USB ports ensures that devices charge faster, which is a significant improvement for those who rely on their gadgets during long drives.
The seats in the NX are designed for maximum comfort, featuring high-quality materials and ergonomic support. The rear seats can be folded down to increase cargo space, making the NX a versatile option for both daily commutes and weekend getaways. The cabin is also quieter, thanks to improved insulation and noise-canceling technologies, providing a serene driving experience.
Performance and Powertrain Options
Power will come from a turbo 2.0L four-cylinder engine in the NX300. This engine is designed to offer a balance of power and fuel efficiency, making it suitable for both city driving and highway cruising. The NX 300h hybrid will get a 2.5L inline-4 engine paired with a pair of electric motors, delivering class-leading power and fuel economy. The hybrid system is designed to switch seamlessly between the gasoline engine and electric motors, providing a smooth and efficient driving experience.
One of the standout features of the new NX is the improved engine sound and exhaust note. This is achieved through the use of Active Sound Control, which uses the car’s speakers to enhance the engine sound. This feature is particularly appealing to driving enthusiasts who appreciate a more engaging driving experience.
A NX F Sport version will be offered as well. The F Sport variant is expected to come with sport-tuned suspension, unique styling elements, and additional performance features. This version is aimed at those who want a more dynamic driving experience without compromising on the luxury and comfort that Lexus is known for.
Safety and Technology
Safety is a top priority for Lexus, and the 2018 NX is no exception. The crossover comes equipped with a suite of advanced safety features, including adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and automatic emergency braking. These features are designed to assist the driver in avoiding accidents and ensuring the safety of all passengers.
The NX also offers a range of driver assistance technologies, such as a 360-degree camera system and parking sensors, making it easier to maneuver in tight spaces. The infotainment system is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing drivers to seamlessly integrate their smartphones with the car’s system.
Pricing and availability for the 2018 NX are currently unknown, but given the extensive updates and improvements, it is expected to be competitively priced within the luxury crossover segment. The new NX is set to appeal to a wide range of buyers, from young professionals to families, thanks to its blend of style, performance, and advanced features.
