When is it ok for a massive ship to pull up at a dock and disgorge hundreds of spiders, when they are Fiat Spiders, that’s when. The first shipment of the Mazda MX-5 siblings have landed on US shores meaning that the cars will be at dealerships next week. The 2017 Fiat Spider I am interested in is the Abarth, but I see none of these in this image.
Granted it’s hard to tell them from the normal Spider without the flat black hood decal or close up of badges. This marks the first shipment of Fiat Spiders to land on the US in 30 years, since the original Spider left the market. Power for the car comes from a 1.4L turbo engine with 160hp and 184 lb-ft of torque.
The Fiat 124 Spider, Abarth Spider, and Mazda MX-5 aren’t the cars to buy for straight-line speed, but they are a blast to drive and will haunt much faster cars on a road racing course. The base Spider starts at $25,990 with the Abarth starting at $29,190. The last time you could buy a new Fiat Spider in the US as in 1985.
