Ford has the most popular vehicle in the US with the F-150 truck and the truck has gone through some major changes in its newest iteration shedding a bunch of weight. The weight reduction came thank to a change to aluminum in the truck body rather than steel. Less weight means better fuel economy and more performance.
Anyone looking for an alternative to gas or diesel power will be able to get the 2016 F-150 with an engine that can run on compressed natural gas or propane. Ford announced the truck would be available with those alternative fuel sources this week.
The only engine that will run on CNG or propane is the 5.0L V8. Ford notes that the truck will make it the only auto manufacturer that is building a half-ton truck powered by CNG or propane. Customers interested in these alternative fuel sources will be able to order the truck this summer. Ford fleet sustainability and technology manager Jon Coleman said, “We surveyed customers likely to use natural gas or propane, and 72 percent told us they want to have these alternative-fuel capabilities available on F-150 with the 5.0-liter V8 engine.”
