Square is a credit card reader company that works with businesses to equip them with the accessories they need to process credit and debit card transactions quickly and securely. They recently partnered up with Griffin Technology to create the Merchant Case, a smartphone case for the iPhone 5 and 5s that protects the phone and optimizes it for use with Square’s mobile card reader.
The idea of the case and the Square Reader is to give mobile businesses a way to conduct debit and credit card transactions on the go with ease. Instead of writing down the person’s information they’d be able to swipe the card and sign on the smartphone screen. It’s especially handy for door-to-door sales in today’s card-centric day and age.
I used to work door-to-door and always hated having to go through the pain of taking someone’s credit or debit card. You’d have to write the numbers down, make doubly sure the information was correct, get a copy of the card by doing a pen or pencil rub, and that was if you were able to talk the customer into handing their card over in the first place!
The case is supposedly just the tip of the iceberg for the new Works with Square program. I wonder what they’ll come up with next.
