The Samsung Galaxy S7 has seen its fair share of rumors and leaks over the past few days. We’ve heard about what the handset will come with as well as the rumored launch date for the handset.
Now, the alleged Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge were spotted on Zauba, an imports tracking website in India.
The listing on Zauba reveals two devices: one with the model number SM-G930R4 with a 5.5-inch display and SM-G935R4 with a 5.1-inch display. In case you don’t know, these are the model numbers of the alleged Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.
Specifications and Features
The handsets have been spotted on benchmarks on a number of occasions revealing a QHD display, 4GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage. Rumors suggest it will come with the Snapdragon 820, but the devices spotted on benchmarks boast the Exynos 8890 processor. This dual-processor strategy is not new for Samsung, as they have previously released different variants of their flagship devices with different processors depending on the market.
Other rumored features include a 12MP camera for photos and videos, a 5MP front-facing camera, and Android 6.0 Marshmallow as its operating system. The 12MP camera is particularly interesting as it suggests Samsung is focusing on improving low-light performance and overall image quality rather than just increasing the megapixel count. The front-facing camera, while not groundbreaking, is expected to offer solid performance for selfies and video calls.
Design and Build
In terms of design, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are expected to follow the design language of their predecessors, the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, with a few refinements. The S7 Edge, in particular, is anticipated to feature the signature curved edges that have become a hallmark of Samsung’s design. These curved edges are not just for aesthetics; they also offer additional functionality, such as quick access to apps and notifications.
The build quality is expected to be premium, with a combination of metal and glass, providing a sleek and modern look. Water and dust resistance are also rumored to make a return, which would be a welcome feature for many users who need a more durable device.
Battery and Additional Features
Battery life is always a critical aspect of any smartphone, and the Galaxy S7 series is rumored to come with significant improvements in this area. Reports suggest that the Galaxy S7 will feature a 3000mAh battery, while the S7 Edge will come with a larger 3600mAh battery. These improvements, combined with more efficient processors and software optimizations, should result in better battery life compared to previous models.
Additional features that are rumored to be included are wireless charging, fast charging, and possibly even a microSD card slot for expandable storage, which was notably absent in the Galaxy S6 series. The inclusion of a microSD card slot would be a significant move, addressing one of the major criticisms of the previous generation.
Samsung is expected to launch both devices a little early next month, possibly at the Mobile World Congress 2016 in Barcelona. This event is one of the biggest in the mobile industry, making it the perfect stage for Samsung to unveil its latest flagship devices. We’ll update you if we get to hear anything more about the alleged device.
