I know the big news right now is the Nexus 5 and KitKat launch, which is Android 4.4, but it’s going to be a while still before most of us have KitKat in our hands. Jelly Bean, Android 4.1 – 4.3, just made it onto 52.1% of all active Android devices, which is quite a jump from last month’s 48.6% integration.
Gingerbread, Android 2.3, is on 26.3% of devices, and Ice Cream Sandwhich, Android 4.0.3 – 4.0.4, makes up 19.8%. The rest is spread out amongst Android 2.2 and lower, all of which are dying by the wayside.
Those numbers are brought to us by devices the make use of the Google Play Store, so other Android devices like the Kindle don’t skew the results.
I didn’t realize people were still running Ice Cream Sandwhich, let alone Gingerbread! Those must be the people using the prepaid phones that are offered by the likes of MetroPCS and Boost Mobile. Something is always better than nothing.
I’m currently trying to get my hands on a Nexus 5 so I can give KitKat a try, and because I really need an upgrade from my Atrix 2.
What Android OS does your phone run right now?
