Pictured below is the Digi-Piggy and it puts a fresh spin on saving up those coins for a special occasion. What the Digi-Piggy does better than its low tech counterparts is keep tab of exactly how much is kept inside it.
The Digi-Piggy does this thru a digital readout on its snout. Keep in mind it only registers American coins and just coins, so don’t slip in them Benjamins hoping to fatten your dough.
Here’s a good chunk of the official press release:
“Categorized for children aged three and older, Digi-Piggy effectively demonstrates the importance and benefits of savings. Teachers and parents alike have used the Digi-Piggy to show children how to save money. In the classroom, students can learn how to recognize the dollar and cent symbols as well as the concept of decimal notation. At home, children can see how spare change, money earned for chores, and coins uncovered found the family sofa (or dad’s pockets!!!) can add up as the total amount on the LCD display increases. The Digi-Piggy serves as a great tool for children to learn the value of saving for something they want or need by providing a personal appreciation for and connection with the money they earn.”
The Digi-Piggy is due in the third quarter of 2011. Expect it to be available in all major retail outlets. If you can’t wait until then, pre-orders can be made here.
