Chinese Man Builds Earthquake-Proof Bed
Is it just us, or do some of the best designs that reach this site come from everyday people? There’s not much of a backgrounder available on Wang Wenxi, the elderly Chinese who patented this earthquake-proof bed.
While the accompanying photo indicates a rather solid-looking sleeping place, we do believe its being earthquake proof is a slight misnomer. What exactly makes something earthquake proof?
Better put, the bed simply improves your chances of survival in case a devastating quake collapses your house or the dozen floors above your apartment unit. In fact, when your house does collapse on top of you, the bed’s thick frame can support a roof and the extra space inside its thick boards can store essential foodstuffs like canned goods and life sustaining water. We’d like to add pets too, since there appears to be lots of room to spare.
Considering China’s experience with quakes and other natural disasters in the last couple of years, this bunker-you-sleep-in can’t be available to the public soon enough. I think he should have built a ham radio in it as well, to be able to call for help when the inevitable does occur
