People do crazy and dangerous things to get attention on Youtube. They want success and popularity and it seems that anything is worth risking for that. However, things can go horribly wrong, as 19-year-old Monalise Perez of Norman County, Minnesota found out recently.
Perez was charged with manslaughter after she accidentally shot her boyfriend. The couple were filming a stunt for YouTube, when things went wrong.
She was arrested after she called 911 to report the accident which led to her 22-year-old boyfriend Pedro Ruiz’s death. Ruiz wanted to prove in the video that a book could protect him from a bullet. Not very smart obviously. They filmed the entire episode in which Ruiz held a hardcover encyclopedia in front of his chest and Perez shot him.
Monalisa Perez first tweeted about the stunt on June 27 and she mentioned that it was Ruiz’s idea. Claudia Ruiz, the deceased boyfriend’s aunt, told a local station that she had tried to convince her nephew to not use a gun. “We want more viewers, we want to get famous,” was his response. Apparently, the manslaughter charge carries a maximum sentence of ten years. Perez will appear in court soon and then we’ll know what the sentence is. It isn’t worth it people.
