Watching a vertical video on mobile devices is a pain because of those nasty black bars at the top and bottom which just ruin the whole experience. That’s why landscape is the best way to watch videos. YouTube on Android hasn’t been able to do full screen vertical videos thus far, but now all of that has changed.
A new update is available for the official YouTube app for Android which allows it to play vertical videos in full screen. It’s about time. This will make vertical vids more watchable.
Before this update if you tried to make a vertical video full screen the app would automatically display it up and down in landscape mode. Rotating the device didn’t help since it wouldn’t play vertical videos in full screen mode. Thankfully that is all over thanks to the latest version of YouTube for Android. Now a vertical video full screen will preserve the orientation and it works on both smartphones and tablets.
I guess Google figured that since people are still making vertical videos, they might as well correct the problem and help everyone out. We knew something would happen eventually and I’m surprised it has taken this long.
