Lately, it feels like we are living in a Stephen King story where our smartphones are turning against us. It’s as if the smartphone Gods are angry. The Galaxy Note 7 is just one of the phone blowing up.
Now it is the Xiaomi Mi 4c (We believe it to be the model as of now) handset that is exploding. A faulty unit exploded in the back pocket of its user and gave him third-degree burns.
The accident was caught by a security camera and the aftermath photographed inside what’s likely a hospital. It seems like the fire has originated in the battery. Man, it is not a good time to be using smartphones. What will happen next? In July, a Xiaomi Mi4i exploded while charging inside an office in India and thankfully, no one was hurt, but the explosion was serious and if the user held the smartphone in their hand during the accident, the outcome could have been much worse. You can’t help but feel that we are all at risk.
Hopefully the smartphone Gods can be appeased somehow. Maybe if we put the headphone jack back on the iPhone? I guess time will tell if we have more incidents.
