The Xbox One X is Microsoft’s most powerful console ever. Demand has been great for the product in most major markets, but the Japanese have not given it a warm welcome. According to a new report, the Xbox One X has had a bad launch week in Japan.
Media Create tracks retail sales in Japan and it is reporting that the Xbox One X has not performed well in Japan during the initial launch week. In comparison, there was a large demand for the console in the west during launch week. Things are not looking good in Japan. Microsoft only sold 1,344 units of the Xbox One X in Japan during launch week, putting it in 8th place on the hardware sales chart. Also the standard Xbox One only sold 121 units during the week.
So what gives? Almost 80,000 units of the Nintendo Switch were sold during the same period while the PS4 moved 20,021 units. It’s clear that the Japanese love their Nintendos and PS4s which is why those consoles continue to dominate the market. They just aren’t crazy about the new Xbox One X. They are too busy putting their money on Nintendo and Sony products. Microsoft will have to counter this somehow.
