Microsoft’s Major Nelson announced on Twitter Friday that owners of the company’s Xbox One game console should not to try to perform a “hack” that would apparently give their new shiny consoles compatibility with older Xbox 360 games. The hack, which originated on Internet message boards as a prank, instead will most likely render your expensive console useless. You don’t want that. Major Nelson told readers of his Twitter account that there is no way of making their Xbox One consoles compatible with Xbox 360 games. So basically stop trying.
The hack has six steps, and it results in the opening of the Developer Console, which allows for the alteration of several essential features for the device. According to the hack, users should change the sandbox ID on their devices, and the change results in the Xbox One becoming stuck in a constant reboot cycle. We would all like to have backwards compatibility for the Xbox One, but this particular solution is just not worth it.
One day there may be a hack that will give it to you, but that day is not today apparently. I wonder how many people have bricked their console trying this hack. Not worth it.
