Microsoft’s Xbox One was originally announced and launched in 2013, so the console is about 6 years old now and maybe it is time for it to be replaced by a newer version. This could be if we look at previous console release patterns in the past. It could even be announced at E3 this year.
This is according to French gaming website JeuxVideoi who claims that Microsoft could debut two of their next-gen Xbox consoles at E3 this year. Called “Lockhard” and “Anaconda”, this is not the first time we’re hearing about them. We heard rumors from last year that Lockhart will be a cheaper Xbox without a disc drive and will instead use streaming.
The report says that the new Xbox consoles will debut at E3 2019, but it will be available in 2020. The Lockhart console is interesting because there was a rumor that Xbox Game Pass could be launching on the Nintendo Switch and will rely on Microsoft’s xCloud game streaming platform to stream games to the console, so it makes sense that Lockhart could use similar technology.
We have no way of knowing if this report is true, but we will find out soon as E3 will be taking place in June. Sony is also expected to launch the PS5, but there are conflicting reports as to when this will happen.
