We think of torrents and we think about piracy, but torrents weren’t always the pirate’s mode of choice like they are today. Check this news out. It looks like even after more than 10 years, the world’s oldest torrent is actually still active. What kind of torrent do you think it is? According to TorrentFreak, it is the ASCII remake of The Matrix.
According to the Readme file, which is some sort of disclaimer to say that it isn’t a pirated copy of the video, “This work is a parody. As such I do not believe that this DVD has any possibility of competing with the original in any market. It is not for sale.” Now that this is out of the way, the file is over 4GB. It’s pretty amazing that it is still being shared. I guess people really enjoy it that much.
That might not seem like a huge file these days, but over 10 years ago, 4GB would have been a massive file. Here is some more info on this old torrent. The torrent was created 4,419 days ago on the 20th of December, 2003. Apparently there are still 8 people who are actively seeding the torrent right now. The torrent is still available from other torrent websites too.
