Blizzard’s MMORPG World of Warcraft is a game that has been around for a long time. It was bound to go through some ups and downs after more than a decade. Subscriber numbers have been down for a bit. According to Activision Blizzard’s latest subscriber numbers have gone down again.
Right now, the number of active subscribers is sitting at 5.5 million. Before this, World of Warcraft had 5.6 million subscribers back in August, but prior to that in 2014, the game hit a new high after so long when it crossed the 10 million mark. That was because of the Warlords of Draenor expansion.
An older game like this is bound to lose players as it ages. Blizzard has a new expansion coming up called Legion, so the numbers will likely go up again. We will likely learn more during BlizzCon 2015 which will be taking place near the end of the week.
Hopefully Legion will be able to get the numbers up for this franchise. The new playable Demon Hunter class will likely help lure many players back. The question is, will they stay? The Warcraft movie is coming in 2016, so that might generate more interest too. Time will tell. We will know soon.
