Blizzard’s MMORPG World of Warcraft is the company’s main source of revenue and it has seen better days. Subscribers are charged $15 a month. There are still a lot of subscribers who are paying for the game, but Blizzard’s revenues are dropping as far as World of Warcraft is concerned.
According to a report by Super Data Research, the game’s revenue was reported as $93 million in April, which is a huge drop from $204 million recorded just seven months earlier. The report seems to think that World of Warcraft could adopt the free-to-play model. After all, Blizzard did announce that they were looking into introducing microtransactions within the game where players could spend real money to get certain items.
This could possibly get them more new players and see revenue increase. It sounds like they need it badly. Something needs to happen to get more revenue.
