We have so many games available for our mobile devices, but only a few have been able to become true classics. Words With Friends is one such game.
Developed by Zynga, this puzzle game has been immensely popular ever since it came out. Now the developer will be taking it beyond the mobile phone. In fact it has teamed up with MGM Television to develop a primetime TV show for Words with Friends.
Words With Friends is extremely popular. It has been downloaded more than 200 million times ever since it was released in 2009. It is still one of the top 10 free games on the App Store of all time. Zynga’s data shows that at any point in time, there are more than 55 million Words with Friends matches going on across the globe. So a TV show could be very big.
“The interactive social experience of Words With Friends makes it the perfect mobile game for us to bring to primetime, following our success with Beat Shazam on FOX,” said Barry Poznick, president of Unscripted Television at MGM. We don’t have any further details at the moment, aside from the fact that Zynga has said that the primetime TV show is going to incorporate aspects from its larger word and puzzle games.
