A woman in Florida was arrested after 911 received an unusual call. This call wasn’t made by the driver however, it was the car itself that called the police about the woman who was driving the vehicle. She allegedly hit a truck and then a van before fleeing the scene.
It was the car’s automatic safety featured that picked up on the sudden changes in movement and called the cops. She was arrested as she left the scene of an accident and also lied when police asked her about it. I’m glad the car ratted her out, but it is scary to think that our cars can get us arrested.
The car’s safety feature uses sensors inside the car to determine whether there has been a sudden change in movement or if the airbags have been deployed due to an accident. Then it automatically calls emergency services and gives them the make and model of the car, as well as the location and time of the accident.
The car’s driver can then talk with emergency services and give additional details. This feature has been included in cars like Volvo, Ford and BMW for a few years now. When this 57 year old woman hit a truck and then a van, emergency services reached out to her after the car called in. She then told police that “everything was fine,”. When asked if she had left the scene of an accident she told the dispatcher “no I would never do that.”
And now she is caught. Hopefully this will serve as a warning to others.
